Laser Release of Tethered Oral Tissues in Airdrie
Learn about how the laser release of tethered oral tissues at Blunston Dental Group in Airdrie, Alberta can help improve eating, breathing and more.
What Are Tethered Oral Tissues?
Tethered oral tissues (TOTs) are restrictive connective tissues, like tongue tie, lip tie, or cheek ties, that limit movement and may affect speech, breathing, feeding, and oral development.
What Is a Frenectomy?
A frenectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that releases restrictive tissues, improving tongue and lip mobility for speech, swallowing, breastfeeding, and oral function. The procedure can often be done quickly and with little discomfort. We offer laser therapy to release TOTs in both infants and adults to help ensure proper oral function, swallowing and breathing.
At Blunston Dental Group, we perform frenectomies using a LightScalpel® carbon dioxide laser that vaporizes tissue with light energy. Benefits include reduced pain, swelling, risk of infection, and scarring compared to traditional methods. The laser also allows for precise, controlled tissue release.
