TMJ Calgary Neuromuscular Treatment Before
TMJ Treatment After

If this is your first visit to Blunston Dental Group you may notice a unique approach to your care that you have not experienced before. Our Calgary area TMJ dentist assesss your oral health using a neuromuscular philosophy. We want to make sure your facial and jaw muscles, joints and teeth are physiologically balanced for long term stability and use. Areas of initial assessment include: head posture, airway, teeth alignment, jaw joints, bite relationship, and facial structure.

Many dental patients understand when they have poor posture because it can be symptomatically felt or visibly evident. It may not be as noticeable when their teeth, jaw joints and muscles are out of alignment. Your “bite” is a key component of a balanced posture and your overall health. Our study of this physiologic operation of your teeth, jaws, bite and posture of our patients is called Neuromuscular Dentistry (NMD).

When your bite is not aligned (malocclusion) or is functioning out of physiologic harmony then a cascade of symptoms may arise. Some of these signs and symptoms can include:

  • worn teeth
  • sensitive teeth
  • broken teeth
  • crowded teeth
  • teeth grinding (bruxism)
  • gum recession
  • headaches
  • migraines
  • jaw or face pain
  • clicking or popping in the joint
  • ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • neck, shoulder or back pain
  • difficultly chewing
  • snoring or sleep apnea

These symptoms can be attributed to temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), also referred to as temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ), or myofascial pain dysfunction (MPD).

The goal of neuromuscular dentistry is to enable normal jaw positioning by coordinating the relaxed function of your bite with the rest of your balanced posture. Whether you are a 6-year old who snores because your airway is compromised by enlarged tonsils or adenoids; a teenager with crooked teeth; an adult with jaw pain, clicking and headaches or a senior who can’t chew well because your dentures don’t fit, neuromuscular dentistry has wonderful options to help you feel better, chew more effectively and smile more confidently.

Is now the right time for you to visit Calgary area TMJ dentist in Airdrie, Dr. Thayne Blunston to learn more about the benefits of neuromuscular dentistry?
